South Carolina Camp: Notes & Standouts

    Written by: Drew Johnson (@RealNews102)

College camps have kicked off around the country with the QB House tour making its second stop at the University of South Carolina for the Shane Beamer Football Camp. There were standouts that deserve recognition for dominating their competition or those that performed well throughout the day. The Summer Camps provide student-athletes opportunities to learn new techniques while being coached by college coaches and players. Platform National Scout Drew Johnson attended the camp this week to highlight notable standouts from around the country.

    Jamarion Williams | DB | Class of 2025 | Daniel | @MariWilliams_5

    5’9, 165

Williams finished as one of the top dogs on the defensive side of the ball at the Shane Beamer camp. I watched him talk the talk and lock up a couple of receivers which got the energy up during the 1v1 period. The rising junior has plenty of time to add weight to his frame and deepen his bag of skills on both sides.

    Quaysheed Scott | ATH | Class of 2024 | Marion | @QuaysheedScott

    6’0, 186

Another alpha dog on the defensive side of the ball that wasn’t afraid to get tough reps was Quaysheed Scott. Great frame combined with good speed and coverage skills to play either cornerback or the safety position. Has about 12 offers including Marshall and Georgia Southern but should see an uptick with more exposure.

    Jalen Barry | WR | Class of 2024 | Fort Dorchester | @jalentbarry

    6’3, 205

It was at one point that I looked over to watch the other side of the field perform during the 1v1 period and Jalen Barry made two great plays which earned his name on the list. Barry has the frame to play the tight end position but the sneaky speed and route running make him a home run threat.

    Myles McDonald  | QB | Class of 2027 | Newsome | @813_mcdonald

    5’10, 180

No doubt that Myles McDonald is one of the top QBs in the class of 2027. The lefty zips the ball around the field with ease and turns it up as the day goes on. Impressed with his footwork and QB mechanics as he trains consistently with QB trainer BJ Hall. Someone to follow and keep an eye on as he continues to progress each year.

    AJ  Causey | WR | Braden River | Class of 2025 | @AjCausey2

    6’2, 172

A Florida boy that made his way to South Carolina with Team RI5E made his name known during the Shane Beamer camp. Has a good frame to excel at the position but he impressed with smooth route running and soft hands.

    Cam Strong | DB | Class of 2025 | TL Hanna | @CAMSTRONG7

    6’1, 170

Cam Strong made the notable standout list because he made a great read on a post route, basically running the route for the receiver and finished the play with a tough interception.

    Brent Clements | EDGE | Class of 2024 | Zephyrhills Christian Academy | @BrentMClements

    6’1, 195

QB House Tour prospect Brent Clements has dominated the competition on both days of the college bus tour. He’s a pure athlete that has the figure and calf muscles of a gold-medal track runner. He uses his frame and length to explode and cause problems on the edge. Should have made the Mercer Camp standout list but surely shined bright at USC.

    Jaquez Ivey | DB | Class of 2026 | Grovetown | @jaquez_ivey

Ivey is a rising sophomore that has a good frame already to make plays at the position. Watched Ivey win a couple of reps and look smooth during the drill sessions. He can play both sides of the ball because of his lengthy frame and ball skills with plenty of time to add weight to his frame. Ivey is someone to keep an eye on in the class of 2026.

    Rogers Jones | DB | Class of 2025 | Zephyrhills Christian Academy | @rodgersjones_4

    6’4, 185

Day 2 of the OB House Tour and Rogers Jones has shown he isn’t afraid to line up and perform at any position on either side of the ball. A natural athlete that is one step away from truly separating himself from others in his class. Had an interception during the 1v1 session after locking up tight ends at the linebacker position.

    Jeremy Thomas | QB | Class of 2024 | Largo | @Jeremy_T10

    6’3, 190

It’s now stamped that Thomas has a real cannon on his arm as he zipped the ball about 40 yards with ease. Got to really get my eyes on him at the Shane Beamer camp and left impressed and confident that he can have an impressive year for Largo. The rising senior knows it is time to make it happen and has looked solid on both days on the QB House College Bus Tour.

    Kendall Johnson | WR | Class of 2024 | Tampa Tech | @KxndallJxhnson

    6’1, 170

Johnson had his best day of the QB House College Bus Tour as he was able to make a good few plays during the 1v1 period. Told you I would provide an update on his game once watching him perform and its evident that he has a solid release with decent speed and good hands to take the top off the defense.
