Gabriel Couisnard Jr. (@GGcousy) is a young, talented prospect with major upside. Ranked as the top quarterback in the state of Texas by USA Top 100 before reclassifying to 2029, Couisnard Jr. will be a player to get to know in the near future. He’s well coached and it shows on the field. The 29′ standout has really good ball placement and scans the field at a high level with exceptional decision making. The way he carries himself on and off the gridiron is impressive, to say the least. I recently spoke with Gabriel Couisnard Jr. to discuss his football background and left wanting to know more about him. Take a look below….
I want to know your first memory of playing football as a kid.
The first memory that comes to mind of playing football as a kid is playing at Nationals versus a nationally ranked team in Lewisville, Texas. The game was close and we were down by a point. On the last play of the game, I threw a seam route in between cover 2 to one of my best friends for the game winner. We went on to win the national championship.
Talk about the most influential person(s) in your life right now that keeps you level-headed?
The most influential people in my life are my uncles and my dad, seeing them grow up in the same household and environment, which made me believe that I could be just like them. They set a great example for me.
What are your game day rituals?
On game day, I always wear something comfortable to school. I’ll listen to music as I mentally prepare myself for competition.
In detail, what’s the hardest part about being a student athlete these days with social media being a heavy influence?
I understand that social media can be a distraction. I don’t let outside factors influence the person I am. I stay away from all negativity.
As a QB, how would you best describe your playing style, and what’s your favorite thing about the position?
I would call my playing style a pocket passer and field general that can make the right reads. I get compared to Bryce Young a lot. My favorite thing about playing QB is that I always have the ball in my hands and I can make winning plays for my team.
Often, quarterbacks deal with a ton of pressure in both wins and losses. Describe a time when you dealt with adversity and came out on top.
I’ve dealt with pressure and adversity by I playing the backup role on a new team until I got the opportunity to showcase my skills. I scored multiple touchdowns and didn’t see the bench again. I’ve also battled through fracturing my arm and coming back to play in the same season.
Many people say 7v7 can create bad habits. How do you stay disciplined in your training so you don’t fall into that category?
When training, we work on seeing the field and aligning my feet and mechanics to make the throws. I use 7v7 to help me recognize leverage, coverages, and matchups so I can translate it to pads when the time comes.
What are your individual goals as a player?
The individual goals as a player are to be the best me. And to make my family proud of me. My biggest goal is to go to college and make it to the NFL. I want to go first round, I would be the first to go pro for football in my family.
If you weren’t an athlete, what could you see yourself doing and why?
If I wasn’t an athlete, I could see myself as a streamer, playing games for fun and making money off of it. It gets no better than that.
What would you like for your future high school coaches to know about you?
I would like my future high school coaches to know that I am a good leader. I am coachable, and I have an open mind for learning something new. I would also like them to know that I am willing to put in a lot of work.
In your own words, define success.
Success to me is perfecting the long-term goals I have for yourself. I am making sure that I feel good about myself and what I’ve accomplished while also being the best son, brother, friend, and teammate I can be.
GGG the future of Texas footballl !
