Friday Night Preview: Texas Week Three Games to Watch

Week three of the high school football season is upon us in Texas and there are several games that will have plenty of eyes on them this weekend. We will breakdown a couple of matchups that feature state ranked teams.

    #4 Austin Westlake 2-0  vs #9 Humble Atascocita 2-0

The Atascocita Eagles have been one of the most explosive teams through the first two weeks of the season. Class of 2026 running back Cardae Mack has been pulling double duty. He has been under center at quarterback, even though he is one of the top rated running backs in the state of Texas. Mack has been an explosive playmaker with his ability to be a threat to make plays with his feet and hit teams over the top with the pass. In a 41-24 win of Katy in week two, Mack had 356 yards of total offense with 4 touchdowns, 3 of them being passes. Oklahoma commit Tory Blaylock is also a major weapon from his running back position in the Atascocita offense. Wide receiver Broderick Malone is a matchup problem out wide and he gives the Eagles a big play threat in the passing game.

Westlake had no problem in week two taking care of San Benito 63-7 and they beat one of the top programs in the DFW area, Prosper in week one 35-19. Class of 2026 quarterback Rees Wise is the man under center for the Chaparrals and he can get it done through the air or on the ground. The Westlake offensive line will look to control the tempo took keep that high octane Eagles offense off of the field. Justice Johnson and Cal Livengood will be a solid 1-2 punch in the running game for Westlake. This matchup of top ten 6A teams should produce plenty of fireworks.

    #3 North Crowley 2-0  vs #17 Denton Guyer 2-0

This a matchup of two DFW area powerhouse clubs who have their sites set on making a run to a state title in 2024. The North Crowley Panthers are coming off a big win over Desoto 57-51 in week two. Running backs Cornelius Warren III and Daniel Bray form possibly the fastest backfield in the state of Texas. Warren III had 153 yards and 3 touchdown against Desoto. While Bray rushed for over 100 yards and a score against the No. 1 team in the state in week two. Senior quarterback Chris Jimerson Jr. tossed 4 touchdowns passes to lead the Panthers offense. Wide Receiver Quentin Gibson hauled in 7 catches for 180 yards and 4 scores. This offense will put pressure on Guyer this week, as they look to stop a Panthers team who made a big statement by beating Desoto in week two.

Guyer comes into this big time matchup looking to let the state know they are one of the top teams in Texas. The Wildcats are led by Oklahoma commit Kevin Sperry at quarterback and they have one of the best defensive fronts in the state led by Wisconsin commit Xavier Ukponu. The Wildcats come into this game at 2-0, having beat Aledo and Arlington Martin in the first two weeks. Offensively, look for Sperry to get the speedy Corbin Glasco and Dj Reese involved, as well as Tulsa commit Jackson Shockley. The Wildcats have two of the top defensive line prospects in the 2027 class in Khyren Haywood and Zane Rowe. This game could come down who has the ball at the end of the game.

#1 Duncanville 1-0 vs St. Frances Academy (MD.) 2-1

Duncanville is the No. 1 team in the state of Texas after taking care of business against South Oak Cliff in week two. The Panthers are the back to back defending 6A DI state champions and one of the top ranked teams in the nation. They are led by 5-Star Alabama commit quarterback Keelon Russell, who had 5 touchdown passes versus South Oak Cliff last week. The No. 1 player in the class of 2025 Oregon commit wide receiver Dakorien Moore, is a tough cover and will be one of Russell’s top targets. The Panthers have a plethora of offensive weapons to chose from at the receiver position, in Zachery Turner, Aysun Theus and Trenton Yancey. Defensively the Panthers have one of the top edge players in the 2026 class in Kevin Ford Jr., who will look to bring pressure off the edge on St. Frances. Braylon Edwards and Javion Holley will patrol the Duncanville secondary and both players are sticky defenders who play the run well. St. Francis is a team that plays a national schedule every season, which features some of the top football programs in the country. Two years ago St. Frances came to Texas and beat Desoto 35-7. A Duncanville win could vault the Panthers into the No. 1 spot in the nation.
