Overland Park, KS: Iowa State has landed a key piece in their 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of 3-star tight end Drake DeBaun out of Shawnee Mission South High School in Overland Park, Kansas. Standing at 6’6”, 240 lbs, DeBaun is one of the most versatile and physically imposing tight ends in the Midwest.
Originally committed to Wake Forest, DeBaun flipped to the Cyclones following a strong late push from head coach Matt Campbell and his staff. His commitment brings a dynamic presence to the Iowa State offense, as he’s capable of lining up in the slot, on the line, or even out wide.
DeBaun’s ability to impact both the run and passing game sets him apart. As a blocker, he brings a relentless, physical edge, often compared to having an extra offensive lineman on the field. On passing downs, his basketball background is is on full display. He uses his frame and footwork to box out defenders and high-point the football at the catch point.
Ranked the No. 12 player in Kansas and the No. 65 tight end nationally in the 2026 class per 247Sports, DeBaun chose Iowa State over offers from Wake Forest, Army, Illinois State, Lindenwood, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, and South Dakota State.
DeBaun’s commitment is a major win for the Cyclones, adding toughness, skill, and versatility to their 2026 recruiting class.
