Two schools separated by 0.5 miles that have dominated over the past seasons. Edgewater High School @edgewaterfb (5A/Dist.5) and Bishop Moore Catholic School @HornetFB_1MOORE (3A/Dist. 6) are both located on Edgewater Drive in Orlando Florida. Part I will dive into Bishop Moore and Part II will feature Edgewater High School. Both teams are 2-0 and they played each other in Florida’s Kick-Off Classic game which had Edgewater on top of Bishop Moore by a score of 36-27.
In week 1’s matchup versus Oviedo, Bishop Moore won that game by a score of 68-35.
QB – @blacke_mcc3 (SO) – 23/29, 322 yds, 5 TD’s
RB – @AmereJ21 (SR) – 27 carries f/223 yds, 4 TD’s
WR – @KenyonAlston (SR) – 7 rec f/100 yds
WR – @JaxsonAnderson (SR) – 7 rec f/113 yds. 3 TD’s
Offensively they put up numbers against a very good Oviedo team who just won 55-7 to go to (1-1).
Week 2’s matchup was against a very good school in Orlando Christian Prep, with a great coaching staff and kids to match. Orlando Christian Prep came into the game 1-0 with a huge upset win against Beachside High School.
What stood out to me while watching this game was how well coached the Bishop Moore Hornets team was. Offensively they were up-tempo, and a lot of athletes really stood out. Granted I am writing this article post-game and have not broken-down game film. Here are my initial reactions.
Blake Anderson #7 [@blake_mcc3] c/o2028 listed at 6’1” 190 lbs. Had great command of the offense, got the ball out of his hand quick with a great release and processing of the defense. Some throws were extremely impressive. On one play there was a hitch to the outside of the numbers, the throw was in rhythm, on-time, with a defender within 1-1.5 yards. For a 2028, he seems very advanced and someone that is only going to get better with the quality of coaching at the school. Projects out very well to the next level and will be a Saturday player. I definitely need to go back and watch the previous 2 games to really provide an extensive breakdown.
Amar’e Johnson #21 [@AmareJ21] c/o2026 listed at 5’11”, 190 lbs. Numbers don’t lie when it comes to this game changing RB. I don’t have the official #’s, but it seemed he was around 200 yards and four TD’s. Runs with POWER and quick feet, vision is tremendous. I felt like he was running at 210 with speed. It seemed like every time he ran the ball that it was going to be a big hitter. Workhorse running back who you would feel comfortable getting 25 carries and walking out with a W. Really an A+ High School running back who holds 11 D1 offers. I am really looking forward to watching him through the season and into the playoffs.
Drew Follett #88 [@DrewFollet2027] c/o 2027 listed at 6’4” 235 lbs. Drew jumped out on film. This Bishop Moore offense is loaded, and Drew is a prototypical TE who can be inline, wing, or split out. Great hands, route running, catch radius, catches the ball in traffic with defenders draped over him. Physical with run after the catch playmaking ability. He runs QB friendly routes, as good as the weapons are around the Sophomore QB, having a big body target like Drew is every QB’s dream. I immediately thought of Jason Witten and the Y-Option when watching Drew. Great player who jumped out on film.
Jaxson Anderson #8 [@Jaxsonjanderson] c/o2026 listed at 5’11 and 170 lbs. Jaxson jumped out on film just like Drew. What caught my eye was how football fast he was. Get the ball in his hand on a bubble or tunnel and he is a home run threat. Highly productive player, 3 TD’s in week 1 and at least one today, with another one called back and it was all YAC. Quarterback friendly receiver who pad’s the QB’s stats where he makes a 1-yard catch into a 60 yard run. I was very impressed with his skill set. Stood out while watching the game!
Kenyon Alston #3 [@KenyonAlston]. @illinifootball commit. He’s the player everyone knows they need to stop in the passing game, and you look up and he has 100yds and a TD. Made some great catches over the middle of the field in traffic and is a willing blocker. You roll coverage his way and put your best DB on him. He’s more than deserving of all the accolades he has received.
Trenton Gummer #11 [@trentongummer] c/0 2026 listed at 5’10” and 173 lbs. A dynamic athlete. Plays with so much confidence and that trait serves well in Football but is so imperative for a Defensive Back. Plays all over the field. Who is known to really shut down his side. This game his special teams play was next level. He had well over 100 return yards and 1 spectacular TD return. If you were late getting back to your seat after halftime. Within 5 seconds he was in the end zone. Vision, speed, competitiveness, ball skills are some of the reasons why he is committed to the University of Delaware.
Coaches Spotlight
Bishop Moore’s offense was well balanced and mixed in tempo and formations and play designs that looked similar but had multiple variations.
Below was my favorite play that they ran. I think the TE Drew Follet #88 is a DUDE. The play design they ran multiple times has so many wrinkles, that as an OC the counters are endless. You have an all-state Running back so the defense has to key on him and match numbers in the box to account for him and the threat to run. Jaxson in motion, who is a speedster, could get the jet and have a convoy of blockers. You like the numbers that you get from the motion with #5 on the outside, who will more than likely get the rolled coverage you want. You have your stud WR #3 on the outside as well and any misstep by the defense and the band is playing. You add a high IQ quarterback and a elite TE…and this play design has the defense always wrong.
