Jeff West, after having a rough go the last few seasons, brought in former Washburn University Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach, Jeff Schwinn, to lead the turnaround for the Tigers.

Seeing immediate, first-year progress, Schwinn coached the Tigers to a convincing 50-12 win over Atchison County. The Tigers, now 6-1 on the season, travel to Topeka Hayden next Friday to battle the Wildcats for the Big East Conference title. It is a true testament to Coach Jeff Schwinn’s leadership to have the Tigers competing for a league title in his first season as head coach.

Guiding the Jeff West offense is Class of 2029 QB Brixton Schwinn. Brixton, a freshman quarterback, is quickly emerging as one of the top 2029 recruits at his position, along with Emporia High School and Kansas Colts 7v7 standout Cael Claibourn. Schwinn peppered the Atchison defensive backfield all night.

Brixton found multiple weapons to spread the wealth to, but his favorite target was his brother, Class of 2027 WR Brody Schwinn. Brody was the offensive MVP with touchdown receptions of 7 yards, 34 yards, and 37 yards, in addition to several double-digit yardage receptions and a two-point conversion.

Adding to the offensive weapons, Class of 2026 WR Crayton Holman contributed 50 yards on three receptions for his Senior Night performance. Holman, who played for Top City Most Wanted 7v7 last season, gained valuable reps at wide receiver and led the team in touchdown receptions. In addition to his receiving duties Friday night, he also provided key plays on special teams, returning punts and kickoffs while recording multiple tackles on kick coverage.

On the defensive side of the ball, Class of 2027 LB Jacksen DaSilva turned in a performance that should garner attention from scouts. DaSilva, who also starred for Top City Most Wanted 7v7, recorded double-digit tackles from his linebacker position, added three QB hurries, and made a huge blocked punt and recovery.

Although Jeff West had many standout performers, Class of 2027 ATH Corbin Mayer earned the overall MVP honors for the game. Offensively, Mayer recorded over 50 yards receiving and 50 yards rushing with two touchdowns, one from 27 yards and another from 1 yard. Not satisfied with his offensive production alone, Mayer made a major impact on defense as well, recording a tackle for loss of 5 yards and a fumble recovery, which he returned 25 yards for a touchdown. To top it off, Mayer was a perfect 3-for-3 on PAT attempts.

For Atchison County, Class of 2026 RB/LB Max Bottorff was a bright spot. Bottorff scored two touchdowns on strong, tackle-breaking runs of 16 yards and 13 yards, proving there is no quit in his game.

The Jeff West Tigers continue to showcase resilience, talent, and strong leadership under first-year Head Coach Jeff Schwinn. With contributions from players across multiple classes and a balanced effort on both sides of the ball, the Tigers have established themselves as true contenders in the Big East Conference. As they prepare to face Topeka Hayden with a championship on the line, it’s clear that the culture shift in the Jeff West football program is well underway and the future looks incredibly bright for the Tigers.
