TA Longhorns 7v7 Tryouts: Standouts and Rising Prospects

Coming off a nationally recognized offseason, the TA Longhorns opened their new 7v7 cycle with strong momentum and an expanded structure that now includes a highly competitive 18U high school division alongside their established 10U, 12U, and 14U groups. The program’s latest tryout drew a deep and talented pool of athletes across several graduating classes, many of whom showed advanced traits, positional versatility, and long-term upside.

Below are the top standouts from the event.

    Adan Enriquez – Class of 2027 | Sherman HS | RB/LB

Enriquez delivered a complete two-way performance and showed the type of athletic profile that allows him to impact a game on offense and defense. His footwork stood out early, moving cleanly through cone and reaction drills with balance and burst. As a running back, he displayed natural hands and an ability to make catches outside his frame before transitioning into acceleration. In 1-on-1 matchups, he consistently created separation with quickness and body control.

Defensively, Enriquez showed impressive anticipation. He recorded multiple pass breakups by reading routes and closing space quickly. His competitiveness and physicality allow him to match up well with bigger players. He projects as a versatile varsity contributor who can play multiple spots depending on the defensive structure.

Julian Thomas – Class of 2027 | Prosper Richland HS | ATH

Thomas brings a long, lean frame and moves fluidly in open space, traits that immediately translate to several positions. In coverage, he used his length effectively to disrupt passing lanes and challenge receivers at the catch point. His footwork and stride efficiency allowed him to stay in-phase throughout the rep.

On his fall film, Thomas showcased versatility as a running back, showing vision, burst, and enough power to finish runs through contact. Defensively, he flashed the ability to rush the passer and close on ball carriers with dependable tackling mechanics. His combination of length, movement skills, and two-way experience makes him one of the more intriguing developing athletes in his class.

    Brycen Taylor – Class of 2027 | Sherman HS | ATH/S

Taylor possesses one of the best physical profiles in the entire tryout group. At 6-foot-3 with extended reach and fluid mobility, he fits the prototype of a modern safety or hybrid defensive back. He moves well for his size, showing no stiffness in transitions and covering ground efficiently with long stride speed.

Coming off a productive junior season with 57 tackles, two tackles for loss, and an interception, Taylor continued to show strong instincts during the event. He diagnosed route combinations quickly and used his length to eliminate windows. Offensively, he proved capable as a possession receiver, winning contested catches through traffic thanks to his catch radius and timing. Taylor’s long-term projection leans toward the secondary, where his physical traits and instincts give him significant upside.

    Jordan Puga – Class of 2027 | TE | 6’1”, 200 lbs

Puga brings a sturdy frame and the physical temperament needed to thrive as an inline tight end. He displayed strong hands in positional drills, securing the football cleanly and finishing plays with strength. His ability to frame defenders and box out at the catch point stood out in competitive work.

What makes Puga unique is his blocking ability, which already appears as a strong part of his game on film this past fall. He has the frame and leverage to anchor and the strength to sustain blocks. With continued refinement as a route runner, he offers value as a dependable short-to-intermediate target and an aggressive presence in the run game.

    Tereson Woodley – Class of 2030 | WR | 8th Grade

Woodley was one of the most polished middle school players in attendance. His technical consistency stood out, running crisp routes with attention to detail and showing efficient footwork at the top of his breaks. His long arms and strong hands allowed him to catch the ball cleanly away from his body.

He demonstrated an ability to finish plays through contact and maintained balance after securing contested throws. Woodley’s natural movement skills and early refinement give him clear varsity potential in the future and mark him as one of the most advanced young receivers in the group.

Roston Grant – Class of 2028 | QB | Sophomore

Grant delivered one of the top performances of the entire event regardless of age. He showed upper-level arm talent, driving the ball outside the numbers and layering throws over defenders with touch and anticipation. His mechanics remained consistent throughout the session, maintaining balance and engaging his lower half effectively.

Film confirms his mobility and ability to extend plays, and that athletic component paired with his arm talent creates a high-upside profile. Grant’s accuracy, velocity, and decision-making during drills separated him from his peers.

    Brytten Taylor – Class of 2031 | ATH | 7th Grade

Taylor is an early standout with natural athletic instincts. His quickness and short-area agility were noticeable during drills, displaying the ability to accelerate, decelerate, and cut efficiently. His hands were strong and steady, catching the ball naturally and maintaining control through contact.

What separates him from typical youth prospects is his understanding of spacing and timing. He moves with a confidence and smoothness that suggests advanced football IQ. With continued physical growth, he projects as one of the more promising long-term prospects to watch.

    Alonzo Edwards – Class of 2030 | WR | 8th Grade

Edwards brought notable length and a wide catch radius that allowed him to win several 1-on-1 reps. He tracked the ball naturally and adjusted well to throws that required body control and mid-air positioning. His movement in space was smooth, and he separated effectively with stride variation and acceleration.

Edwards’s size and ball skills give him significant long-term potential at the receiver position. As he continues to fill out physically, he could emerge as a matchup problem on the perimeter.

Logan Husbands – Class of 2027 | Frisco Lone Star | WR

Husbands showcased polish and consistency throughout the day. His quick feet and change-of-direction ability allowed him to separate early in routes, while his reliable hands stood out in traffic and on timing throws. He maintains good control through breaks and understands how to use leverage to create windows.

His smooth movement and technique indicate a player ready to take a step forward at the varsity level. Husbands projects as a dependable playmaker with room to grow.
