Platform Spotlight: 4-Star DB Trae Collins Shines During Pool Play In New Orleans

Day one in New Orleans, 4-star safety Trae Collins showed why he is a national recruit.

One of the top overall prospects in Mississippi’s 2027 class, Collins showed exactly why he is one of the most heavily recruited defensive backs in the country. Coming into the weekend with 29 offers, including programs such as Mississippi State, LSU, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, and Kentucky, he performed like a national-level recruit.

At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Collins possesses a long, lean frame with excellent functional length. He stood out with his versatility, lining up at nickel while also rotating to safety. That positional flexibility is a major asset in today’s hybrid defensive structures, especially in 7v7 settings where space and matchup versatility are critical.

He flashed early with multiple pass breakups, showing sharp route recognition and high-level instincts. Collins consistently stayed in phase down the field, displaying the fluidity and transitional quickness needed to handle vertical threats. His range from the middle of the field was evident, covering ground effortlessly and closing throwing windows in a hurry.

The fall film backs it up. He plays comfortably in space, processes quickly, and attacks the football at its highest point. A true ball hawk, Collins pairs length with strong ball skills, making him a consistent turnover threat.

Competing with AOA 7v7, he delivered a complete showing, showing that he is physical at the catch point, disciplined in coverage, and disruptive throughout the day.

Trae Collins showed in New Orleans why he remains one of the highest-value defensive backs in the 2027 cycle.
