In the world of high school football, few players are as versatile and dynamic as senior defensive back Jaydon Williams. He has been a key piece for (6-1) Bartow High School this season, displaying his ability to excel at multiple positions on the field. At 5-11, 181 pounds, he’s a true swiss army knife, capable of making a big impact wherever needed.
Despite having to fulfill part-time quarterback duties, he’s managed to rack up nearly 40 total tackles with five tackles for loss and one interception through week 7.
Williams has garnered 18 total offers with plenty of attention from college programs nationwide but no D1 offers from in-state Florida schools. He brushed the notion off and gave his thoughts on what he could offer college programs at the next level.
“What I like about my game is that I’m versatile,” Williams said. “I can cover, on my film, you can see me coming off the edge blitzing, and I can tackle in the open field.”
Williams has been used on the offensive side of the ball this season, but no doubt he’s a dog in the defensive secondary.
Out of his 18 total offers, Williams said New Hampshire, Eastern Kentucky, North Alabama, and Albany State are showing high interest.
New Hampshire’s assistant wide receiver coach Charles Watkins has been in weekly contact with Williams.
“He’s staying very consistent with me checking in after every game asking me how I’m doing and feeling while trying to get me up there.”
Much of Williams’ film has him playing the safety or nickel position which is where interested schools are looking for him to play.
Albany State defensive coordinator Peter Davila called Williams to let him know he was trending toward the top of their DB board.
“He likes me at safety,” Williams said. “He talked with me at the USF mega-camp, so we’ve been in contact they just dropped the official offer a few days ago.”
Williams also mentioned a recent conversation with EKU’s head coach reaching out about interest in playing a hybrid position.
“Either nickel, safety, or corner,” Williams said. “They said I can play all three on my film so really whichever one I fit the system better in.”
As the high school football season begins to conclude Williams has no official visits or dates set but will have a few locked in following the playoffs.
Williams decided to transfer to Bartow High before the season, returning to where he initially grew up playing little league football.
While expressing gratitude towards his previous coaching staff, he couldn’t help but praise new head coach Tyler Eden for his efforts in reigniting the championship spirit with the district title on the line Friday against Haines City and state championship aspirations on his mind.
“Coach Eden has been a vibe since I got to Bartow and was one of the reasons I came back,” Williams said. “He’s been doing nothing but the best for Bartow. Last year when you look at it Bartow wasn’t really on the map. It’s a lot of eyes looking at us and Coach Eden brought a lot to the table.”
