The DR7 Road To The Crown Houston tournament saw over 100 teams come out and play in a competitive environment. The amount of talent that stepped on the field and turned heads over the two day event is why teams come out to a DR7 event each weekend around the country. It’s not often that you see two players who move the same and have the identical body type on the same field. Identical twins Jaylin and Jordin Jones fit that description, the brothers both play on the defensive side of the ball and had standout performances in Houston, showing a similar skill sets and playmaking ability defensively. While their identical appearance is stunning on the field, their individual playing styles, strengths and skills show that both of their games are trending in the right in direction. The mission and goal of The Platform is to #ExposeTheUnexposed and provide adequate coverage of athletes around the country giving them exposure. The Jones Brothers are two players who have the potential to make some noise on Friday nights this fall and we will spotlight what each brother did well out in Houston that makes them players to get on everyone’s radar.
Jordin Jones | Class of 2027 | •Defensive End/Edge | 7v7: ALL-EN 7v7 | Westfield High School | 6’ 2 193 Lbs. | @JonesTwins4423
Jordin maybe in his freshman year, but his natural instincts combined with his excellent mechanics and clean footwork were several of the skills that he displayed on the defensive side for ALL-EN 7v7 at the DR7 Houston tournament. He uses his length to play the passing lanes well, patrolling the middle of the defense and he has excellent vision to track ball in flight. Jones had several pass break ups that allowed ALL-EN to turn their opponents drive into points for the defense. When linebackers can play well in space in a 7V7 setting and be effective, those skills will translate well when players with Jordin’s skill set line up in normal a setting in pads. Jones has a huge upside, when you see him in action, his fluid movement combined with his great balls shows a player with the athleticism to be a defensive stopper.
After watching his fall tape from his freshman season, his speed off the edge is noticeable right away, his ability to bend and contort his body enables Jordin to beat his opponents off the ball. Jones plays with good physicality, he has a long, lean frame with good arm length that gives him an advantage and he was able to make plays routinely off the edge. His burst and quickness off the line of scrimmage flashed on his fall tape and his skill set will continue to grow as he matures. Jordin has a high motor and he plays through the whistle. Jones showed that he moves well in space in 7v7 and his fall film confirmed that he has the tools to be a difference maker. With an active offseason on the camp scene and the 7v7 circuits, you can expect his recruiting profile to rise.
Jaylin Jones | Class of 2027 | Edge/ Outside Linebacker | 7v7: ALL-EN 7v7 | Westfield High School | 6’2 190Lbs. | @JonesTwins4423
Jaylin has similar features to Jordin and his game is just as explosive. He moves well in space, he uses his length to play the passing lanes well and showed great range for a true linebacker playing in space in 7v7. Jaylin moves fluidly, using a well trained eye in pass coverage, which lead to several pass break ups, showing that he has the range to run with receivers and play the pass with aggression but under control. Getting plenty of reps in 7v7 will help with his awareness & agility and this will add more tools to his game when he gets back in pads.
When I turned on Jones’s tape, you can see the flashes of quickness at snap, he reads plays quickly at and he has a nonstop motor that enables him to hunt down ball carriers. He has the frame the will allow him to put on ample weight as he matures. He plays with excellent leverage and he uses his hands combined with his extended arm length to keep offensive linemen from getting into his chest. He will get more eyes on him as the camp season get ramped up.
That’s what I’m talking about! Them Jones boys going all the way ❤️
