    Headliners Part 1: DR7 – Houston, TX

By: Nick Gradney (National Scout) @StatZ_G

28′ ATH DaMariyon Dye-Allen (@DynoDyeAllen5) had an exceptional outing during pool play at DR7 – Houston, TX. This kid was dominant, playing outside the numbers all day long. Dye-Allen displayed sticky coverage and active hands. His ability to quickly flip his hips makes him a shutdown corner and an elite prospect. He’s still young, so there’s a lot more to be desired from this 2028 star in the making.

28′ QB Jaxon Schad (@JaxonSchad15) is definitely a kid you want to have on your radar in the near future. Schad started as a freshman this past season for Pflugerville Weiss, which isn’t something you often see in Texas. He currently holds offers from Houston, North Texas, and SMU. Once it’s all said and done, I believe he has the tools to be a top recruit in his class. Jaxon has a great arm and mechanics, and his ball placement is next level. The one thing I noticed is that he protects his receivers. He’s a wideout friendly quarterback and anyone would be lucky to play alongside this young star in the making.

29′ QB Brandon Lafell Jr (@Blafell1) comes from a football background. He’s the son of NFL vet and Super Bowl Champion Brandon Lafell. Unlike his father, Lafell Jr. is a quarterback and a name to know in the Houston area. He will be attending Shadow Creek High School in the fall and he has the potential to give that program another great quarterback. Lafell Jr. can really spin it and has a nice touch on all of his attempts. He has great size at a young age and as time goes on, he’ll only grow and get better.

27′ ATH Dion Johnson Jr (@thedjohnson) was a pleasant surprise to see at DR7 Houston. This was my first time watching this kid perform and he’s explosive! There was one catch in particular that left the crowd in awe. It was high pass across the middle that sailed behind him and looked like it was out of reach. Johnson climbed the ladder and came down with the reception to move the chains. That’s not all – his route running is crispy and he’s very quick in the open field. He’s a player that you have to get hands on. After the game, I told him I’d love to see how well he would do at camps. Keep an out for this young man.

28′ DB Chase Turner (@ChasePlayz32) was really sound during pool play at DR7 – Houston, TX. Coming from 14U, Turner played up to 15U and made his presence felt on the field. He was solid in coverage and almost came up with a takeaway earlier in the day. This kid has really good speed and has shown that he can play man-to-man. However, the slot was where he excelled at today. He won a state championship his freshman season at KIPP Sunnyside and looks to build off of that success in the offseason.

27′ ATH Roderick “Dank” Shields Jr (@sheildsroderick) was undoubtedly one of the top standouts earlier in pool play. Shields Jr. had several interceptions and made plays offensively. This is one of the purest football players I’ve seen this weekend in Houston. The kid just doesn’t have one position. Put him on the field and watch him make something happen. His versatility alone will earn him playing time. Roderick has a high motor and his tenacity is unmatched. He’s a state champion and have two more years left to show what he can do. Look out for this kid in the near future.

27′ WR Cash Clark (@thecashclark) is an extremely shifty player. Cash’s route running ability at such a young age is nothing short of impressive. He’s built like a running back, but he’s a slot receiver that is unguardable. Put the ball in his hands and watch him make plays. Speaking with one of his coaches, he believes that Clark can also make an impact by returning kicks. Judging off of his quick twitch and acceleration in the open field, he’s right. Get to know more about this kid as he continues to blaze his trail.

26′ ATH Jefferson Rivas Hernandez (Jeffrivas407) not only looks the part, but he plays it as well. This is a well put together kid who can play multiple positions on either side of the ball. Jefferson has the lateral quickness to cover at the linebacker spot and the strength to make any tackle up the middle. Offensively, he has strong, possessive hands like a tight end, good vision like a running back and enough speed and moves to make defenders miss like a wide receiver. He’s an underrated talent in the Houston area that’s being highly slept on. If I was a college recruiter, this is a silent assassin I would want in my program. Do not sleep on him much longer!
