The Mount Dora Christian Academy Bulldogs are now 6-1 thanks to a total team domination over The Master’s Academy [3-3]. MDCA looks poised to make a push to the Florida’s SSAA State Championship game. They look to avenge themselves this Friday against Christ’s Church Academy who beat them last year in the playoffs. This team is well coached and one thing that stood out was how energetic the whole coaching staff was. They even had a coach who served as the “coaches get-back” coach similar to Sean McVay a couple of years ago.
The offense is Single Wing, and they run it well. They have some really good-sized offensive lineman who move extremely well and can control the Line of Scrimmage. The runners know exactly where and how to hit the hole and the whole unit blocks without the ball. From the WR, other RB’s and the TE. You can tell as a unit they take pride in blocking, you see skill position athletes with pancake blocks. Overall, it is a well-coached and well-executed unit that you better play sound and disciplined defense, or you will get gashed.
Defensively, they fly to the ball! On the majority of snaps there are 11 hats flying to the football. The defensive coordinator calls a great game, really multiple in how he brings pressure and the illusion of pressure. From my point of view it looks like the defense communicates very well on the field. They adjust to motion and different types of formations. The Master’s Academy gave them a ton of different looks and from first look, they played the multiple fronts well.
You can tell that the team is well coached and has a good practice script. Multiple players are playing both ways and they still are fundamentally sound on both sides of the ball.
Ben Glass | OT | c/o 2027
Ben was very impressive all game. Long arms that really keep rushers at bay. Looks to have broad shoulders and a wide base. Very quick feet, almost like a dual sport basketball player. Good change of direction. Plays with patient hands and understands leverage. Looks extremely competitive and moves defenders. Looks to have great position flex for both OG and OT depending on the team he’s on. Excellent pad level and knee bend. A really solid player.
Noah Weilbacher | OL | c/o 2027
Noah is another impressive athlete. Looks to have powerful legs and hips for anchoring. Displayed patient hands and never saw him overextended. Strong punch. Adjusted assignments quickly. Moves defenders off the line in the run game. Looks to have position flexibility for both OG and OT. Another lineman who is full of talent.
Issac Faling | RB | 2028
Issac really stood out this game. Had 11 carries for 112 yards and 2 Touchdowns. Displayed tremendous vision and instincts. Had a natural feel for the blocking schemes. Routinely pressed the line and set up blocks. Very patient while he waits for a lane and explodes through. Very instinctive runner. Broke arm tackles and delivers contact when needed. As a 2028 has tremendous upside. A name to get on now.
Blake Banks | FS & ATH | 2026
Made plays all over from a rushing TD to a 40-yard pass and multiple passes defended. Plays with fluid hips. Protects against the deep ball and arrives in a hurry in run support. Played with tremendous instincts. Diagnosed plays early and has a natural feel for angles. Played with disciplined eyes. Flies around the field and will go downhill to clean up. Very high football IQ. Plays with good vision offensively. Truly a total athlete. Had the biggest completion on the night for both teams. A very efficient runner. Ran with no wasted steps and can avoid tacklers in a tight space.
Coaching Spotlight
The offensive coordinator really was multiple out of the wing. He utilized motions, overload, changed splits, had multiple action in the backfield, condensed the WR and had him out wide. A great game plan. Whatever you do well the opposite is always open. If you are gashing them with the run, you will get favorable matchups out wide. This play was well executed and set-up by the first couple of series. This was a theme all game. Spread teams don’t practice or play a lot against teams like MDCA. The creativity in the passing game that we see all over in today’s game has it’s equal creativity in the running game. And I absolutely love watching offenses like this. Below is a play that demonstrates this. Quick exit motion followed by a 9 route to you WR who is facing man coverage with zero safety help. 7 man pass protection with a checkdown right underneath the go. Love it!
