DR7 Road to the Crown Marietta, GA: Notable WR Standouts

    By: Drew Johnson (@RealNews102)

The DR7 Road to the Crown seven-on-seven tournament continued with another competitive turnout in Marietta, Georgia which featured some impressive athletes who deserve recognition. The mission and goal of The Platform is to Expose the Unexposed and provide adequate coverage of athletes participating in the DR7 7v7 circuit. National Scout Drew Johnson was in attendance to give readers and coaches a glimpse of a few notable prospects. Here is a list of some of the top wide receiver standouts from Day One of Pool Play.

Emaree Winston | Class of 2025 | 7v7: North Georgia Elite

Winston was simply the MVP standout of the day because of his incredible display of talent and upside through three games. The 6’3, 230-pound athlete has an outstanding frame that he uses to his advantage against smaller defensive backs. What was most impressive is when Winston called his own number, twice, and beat defenders with deep ball streaks while showing off his speed and catch radius. It was easy money for Winston and his quarterback Trey Townsend who finished the day 3-0 with North Georgia Elite heading into championship Sunday. The rising sophomore should be on all Power 5 radars by the start of the fall season.

Bryce Coulson | Class of 2024 | 7v7: Huncho Elite Infinity

Coulson dominated his way onto the list by recording a few touchdowns and had a game-winning interception to seal the deal for his team. He’s a ball player with swagger and confidence and the ability to be a playmaker on both sides of the ball. Coulson impressed with good wide receiver IQ and the understanding of how to come back to his quarterback to keep the play alive. He killed the defense with quick short routes on Saturday and I’m ready to watch Coulson perform on elimination day.

Micah Williams | Class of 2026 | 7v7: Team Dimes

Williams is just a freshman but finished the day as one of the top standouts. He has smooth route running and catch-in-traffic skills but stood out with two crazy one-handed catches that had a few eye-popping reactions. Williams can play on both sides of the ball but the 6’1, 165-pound rising prospect made a name for himself by creating plays for his team with impressive catches all day.

    Ronnie Royal | Class of 2024 | 7v7: GCA

Royal is a speed demon that is a hard task for almost anyone to stay in front of because he combines it with slick route running and good hand strength. The 5’10, 180-pound athlete can do it all on the field as a utility piece. He lined up on the outside but can cause trouble for defenders in the slot with excellent hand leverage and explosive footwork moves. I watched Royal dominate a previous DR7 tournament in Florida and he continues to progress his overall game. The four-star Gulf Shore product will be a big-time name by the end of his senior season. Royal has offers from the likes of FSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, and UCF.

    Bryce Green | Class of 2026 | 7v7: B.D.A

Green was one of the fastest and more agile athletes that I had a chance to get eyes on today. His well-built frame combined with his explosive playmaking landed his name on the Day One standout list. Green is just a freshman with plenty of time to add more weight and development to his overall game. Green has incredible upside and displayed good hands and reliable route-running for B.D.A.

    Sean Wilson | Class of 2024 | 7v7: TME

Wilson looked smooth in the couple of games I watched while recording a one-handed catch and one in the back of the endzone. Wilson has a good frame and size for a 2024 wide receiver with good speed and the ability to stay with the play. He can make plays in the open field but was a burner on the outside that caused problems for opposing defenders. Wilson currently holds an offer from UNC Charlotte but expect his recruitment to pick up in the 0ff-season.

    Rahsaan Isaac | Class of 2026 | 7v7: B.D.A

Isaac was another exciting young prospect to get eyes on because of his ability to be a playmaker on both sides of the ball. Isaac was simply dominant at the wide receiver position while displaying good route-running skills and strong hands at the point of catch. The 2026 rising Buford High product already has a good frame and is continuing to develop his overall game as an athlete. Isaac could grow into one of the top names in the area with more hard work and reps during the fall season.

Jaden Cofer | Class of 2024 | 7v7: Huncho Elite Infinity

Cofer was probably the most effective open-field playmaker today which landed his name on the Day One standout list. He is a jitterbug with the ball in his hands that can run by defenders with blazing speed. His electric route-running combined with sure hands will make him a problem at the next level. Cofer led Clarke Central High with 557 receiving yards and four touchdowns last season. Look out for Cofer to have a big day on championship Sunday.

Rick Penick | Class of 2024 | 7v7: Certified Dawg

Penick is a local Florida prospect that I’ve seen develop into one of the top wide receiver recruits in Polk County. It was nice to see Penick display some of those same good route-running skills with the ability to get open in the intermediate or deep ball game. He has smooth footwork to beat the press or shows off good IQ to find openings in the defense. Penick just recently transferred to state-champion Lakeland High and will have a lot of eyes on his recruitment heading into his senior season.

    Jordan Dees | Class of 2024 | 7v7: GCA

Dees was a deep ball machine for GCA that showed off his good hands and speed to take the top off the defense. Dees had one of the better frames at the position during the camp and landed on the top standout list because of his big-play ability, good release, and athletic catch radius. The 6’4, 195-pound Saraland High two-sport athlete product is a versatile prospect that can provide reliable receiver play. He currently holds an offer from Liberty.

    *More Notable Standouts:

Randell Johnson | Class of 2023 | 7v7: RC Savages Prep

Myles Abernathy | Class of 2024 | 7v7: Team GSP
