DR7 Kicks off 2025 Season in Waller, TX

DR7 kicked off their fourth season in Waller, TX to begin the 2025 7v7 circuit. Athletes and programs from 8u all the way up to 18u competed on the campus of Waller High School in the outskirts of Houston for a paid bid to The Crown National Championship.

Teams overcame less than ideal weather conditions, with wind gusts at times up to 30 miles per hour and temperatures that flirted with single digits.

Several organizations were able to win multiple championships, with High Profile Athletes taking home the 8u and 12u titles and Freeworld Elite winning it in 10u and 14u.

Battlecats took the 15u trophy, and Texas Tap was the 18u champ.

Below are recaps of the championship games including highlights from the DR Sportz YouTube channel. Be sure to check out The Platform from coverage throughout the weekend, and follow us on X and Instagram at @ThePlatformDR

    18u – Texas Tap 24, The Lab 12

After going 1-1-1 on Saturday in pool play, Texas Tap rallied to win the 18u championship with just eight total players on the team. 2025 Receiver Clint Rachal helped lead his squad to the victory with three touchdowns scored in the championship. Rachal and 2026 QB Rodrigo Bravo showed a nice connection as the two linked up for the scores and several other completions throughout the contest. Texas Tap defeated The Lab 24-12 in the final game, and avenged their lone pool play defeat with an 18-17 semifinal win against Waller1 “Grey”.

    15u – Battlecats 25, The Lab 9

The Battlecats suffered a 32-2 loss to High Profile Athletes to close out pool play 2-1 overall. They would get the chance to face HPA again on Crown Sunday, and got their redemption in an absolute battle. That 33-27 win pushed Battlecats to the championship game, where they wound up defeating The Lab 25-9. Holt Goodwin was dialed in at quarterback for the Battlecats in leading them to victory. Coach Charlie Cortez and the Battlecats won their first DR7 event with the win, earning a paid bid to The Crown.

    14u – FREEWORLD Elite 18, Louisiana Mudbugs 12

In a matchup of Texas vs Louisiana, it was the Lone Star State prevailing in a close contest. Freeworld Elite avenged a pool play loss to TTG Sports, beating them in the semifinals 13-10 before taking down the Mudbugs. Look for both of these teams to make some noise as the season continues as they are both highly talented.

    12u – High Profile Athletes 30, TTG Sports 6

HPA 12u scored the highest total points in a championship game with their 30 point showing against TTG Sports. High Profile Athletes won an overtime game against Freeworld Elite to advance to the finals. Kamdyn Earl was one of the many standouts for HPA over the weekend, and came through in the final game making a number of big plays and showing his potential. This HPA 12u team will be one to remember when the first DR7 rankings of 2025 are released.

    10u – FREEWORLD Elite 25, DEFCON Texas Purple 6

Freeworld Elite 10u went ahead early and cruised to a championship victory over DEFCON Texas Purple thanks to some pivotal defensive plays. Freeworld Elite had lost to DEFCON in pool play 19-4, but were able to flip the script on Crown Sunday. Freeworld also defeated the DEFCON Texas Black team that had gone 3-0 in pool play and was the top ranked seed in the 10u division.

    8u – High Profile Athletes 24, C4 Elite 2

HPA 8u erupted for 24 points in their championship win vs C4 Elite. That was the most points of the weekend for the High Profile Athletes 8u squad, and the defense held C4 Elite to their lowest scoring game with just two points. C4 Elite put together a respectable run, finishing as runner-up after coming in as the lowest seed in the 8u bracket. They would upset the 1 seed DEFCON Texas, who beat HPA in pool play. Both teams have bright futures and plenty of talent.
