    QB Standouts KC Varsity Combines

The KC Varsity Combine featured some of the Midwest’s top young quarterback talent, and two
passers separated themselves from the rest. Not only with impressive physical tools but with
high-level leadership and character that stood out far beyond the stat sheet. Both Jake Nichols
and Justice Criniere took home Co-MVP honors and proved they’re names to track in their
    respective classes.

    Jake Nichols | 2028 QB | St. Pius X (Kansas City) | @jakenichols44

    • Height: 6’0.5”
    • Weight: 182 lbs.
    • Wingspan: 78”
    • Top Speed: 19.4 MPH
    • Shuttle: 4.28
    • Broad Jump: 109”
    • L-Cone: 6.94
    • Vertical: 26.3”

A top 2028 quarterback in the Kansas City area, Nichols continues to build momentum after an impressive 7v7 season with Strongside KC. His refined mechanics and natural feel for the position set him apart at the combine. Nichols’ hips and shoulders work in sync, and he throws a tight, accurate ball with consistent zip. His footwork and rhythm suggest a quarterback well ahead of his age in development.

Last fall, Nichols posted a 70.6% completion rate across eight games (24-of-34 for 360 yards and 6 TDs, 0 INTs), and he’s already garnered interest with gameday visits to Missouri, Kansas State, and Iowa State. Expect his recruiting profile to continue rising as he enters his sophomore season.

    Justice Criniere | 2027 QB | Christ Prep Academy | @JCriniere5

    • Height: 5’10.25”
    • Weight: 177 lbs.
    • Wingspan: 74”
    • Top Speed: 20.2 MPH
    • Shuttle: 4.33
    • Broad Jump: 116.5”
    • L-Cone: 7.38
    • Vertical: 34.1”

Criniere burst onto the scene with a breakout performance that left a lasting impression. He displayed elite arm talent, throwing with effortless velocity and pinpoint accuracy throughout camp. What separates Criniere is the combination of his twitchy athleticism (20.2 MPH top speed, 34.1” vertical) and smooth delivery. Whether launching deep or fitting tight-window throws, the ball pops out of his hand differently.

Criniere is already receiving interest, including an invite to Peru State, and more NAIA programs are tracking him. With continued exposure on the camp circuit, he has the tools to climb recruiting boards quickly.

Both Nichols and Criniere set the tone before drills even began, arriving early, helping other quarterbacks, and building rapport with receivers during warm-ups. These leadership traits, paired with their physical talent, make them quarterbacks colleges will want to keep close tabs on.
