Rising Junior QB Braden Baker Dominates on His Way to MVP Honors in Houston

Class of 2027 quarterback Braden Baker continues to establish himself as one of the fastest-rising signal callers in Texas after a strong showing in Houston.

At 6-foot-5, 190 pounds, Baker possesses the prototype frame college programs covet. The Cypress Ranch (Tx) standout backed up the hype with a dominant junior campaign, leading his squad to a 10–3 record and a deep playoff run while earning District 16-6A MVP honors.

Baker accounted for 35 total touchdowns on the season, throwing for 2,806 yards and 32 touchdowns through the air while adding 235 rushing yards and three scores on the ground.

On film, Baker’s development has taken a noticeable leap. The rising senior shows excellent pocket mobility, standing tall while maneuvering within the pocket to extend plays. His clean footwork and ability to engage his lower half allow him to generate impressive velocity on his throws. Baker operates with rhythm and anticipation, consistently delivering the ball on time while demonstrating strong field awareness and pocket presence.

Baker is also effective outside the pocket, using his athleticism to extend plays. He has the ability to move the chains with his legs, whether escaping pressure for a scramble or pulling the ball down on designed runs. That added mobility forces defenses to account for him as both a passer and a runner.

He carried that momentum into Houston at the Road to the Crown, leading Money Squad to a championship on Crown Sunday, while delivering an MVP performance. Baker showcased his full arsenal throughout the tournament displaying elite arm talent, precise timing, and the ability to attack all areas of the field. He showed maturity by taking check-down opportunities when defenses allowed it, while also striking deep for explosive touchdowns. Several throws outside the numbers were delivered on a rope, highlighting his arm strength.

Baker’s performance continues to draw significant attention on the recruiting trail. He currently holds offers from Houston, Baylor, Duke, Oklahoma State, Florida Atlantic, UTSA, Louisiana Tech, and San Diego State, and has an official visit scheduled with Baylor from June 12–14.

With his physical tools, improving command of the offense, and ability to deliver in big moments, Baker is gaining serious momentum heading into his senior campaign. If his trajectory continues, the Cypress Ranch quarterback is positioning himself to be one of the premier passers in the Texas 2027 class.
