The Almeta Crawford Chargers have come out of the gate with plenty of confidence but yet they’re flying under the radar. They have started the 2026 season with a perfect 3-0 record. After a strong 2025 campaign, Crawford has carried that momentum into a new season and has quickly established itself as a team worth watching. The Chargers opened the year with a 51-24 road victory over a really talented La Porte squad, immediately putting their offensive firepower on display. They followed that performance with another impressive win, defeating Freeman 48-16 while producing big numbers through both the passing and rushing games. Through three games, Crawford has put 127 points on the scoreboard while allowing only 63.
The biggest challenge of the young season came in Week 3 against Port Neches-Groves on the road. Crawford entered the matchup facing a highly regarded Port Neches-Groves team, but the Chargers showed plenty of composure in a 28-23 victory. The game was far from perfect, as Crawford turned the ball over four times, but the team found a way to overcome those mistakes. A 21-point third quarter proved to be the turning point as the Chargers took control after halftime. Quarterback Braylen Fisher played a major role in the comeback, accounting for 234 total yards and three touchdowns. Alvin Mosley continued to give the offense a dependable weapon, finishing with seven catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. Jayce George also provided a strong presence in the running game with 109 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.
What stands out about Crawford’s start is the team’s ability to win in different ways. The Chargers have shown they can overwhelm opponents in high-scoring games while also handling adversity in a close road battle. Defensively, Crawford has shown enough toughness to make key stops when the game is on the line. The team is also getting contributions from several players rather than relying on one individual to carry the load. That balance could become increasingly important as the season moves into district play. Crawford still has one more non-district challenge against Nederland before opening district competition against Lamar Consolidated. With a 3-0 record already secured, the Chargers have given themselves an impressive foundation heading into the heart of the season. The next challenge will be maintaining the same intensity and consistency when every game begins to carry greater weight.
