Texas Rising Junior Running Backs Ready to Break Out After Standout Sophomore Seasons

The mission and goal of The Platform is to #ExposeTheUnexposed and provide adequate coverage of athletes around the country giving them exposure. Here’s a list of rising junior to be running backs in Texas who are poised to see their recruiting profiles take off after standout sophomore campaigns:

Kash Schwab (@Kashandrew918) | Bridgeland High School

• Schwab is a dynamic runner with excellent vision and burst. He runs with power in between the tackles and has an extra gear in the open field. His ability to catch out of the backfield makes him a complete back. Schwab put the himself on the map with a big playoff game against Duncanville, rushing for 260 yards and 2 touchdowns. He recently picked up an offer from Texas State. Schwab is a prospect to keep an eye on heading into his junior season.

Ja’ Marlon Mooring (@JaMooring) | A&M Consolidated High School

• A physical back with some wiggle in the open field, Mooring runs with great pad level and has the speed to separate at the second level. His ability to get vertical quickly enables him to make big plays. Mooring put himself on the map after a breakout sophomore season. Offers from UTSA and Texas State have already come his way, with more likely to follow.

Daylon Gordon (@DaylonG2027) | Wylie High School 

• Gordon is a smooth runner who’s quick in space and he is a dangerous in the open field with his ability to cut back against the grain without false steps. His sophomore season featured 1,469 all-purpose yards and 15 touchdowns. With an offer from SMU already, he’s a name to know in the 2027 class in Texas.

Jordan Smith (@_Jordaan17_) | Groesbeck High School

• Smith is a do-it-all back who excels as an elite runner and a receiver out of the backfield. Smith’s elite quickness, speed, and vision make him a consistent big-play threat. He’s already earned offers from UTEP, North Texas, Baylor, Ole Miss, and Arkansas, among others.

Kiante Ingram (@kbingram23) | North Crowley High School

• Ingram is a powerful yet quick runner with shiftiness and speed to separate at the second level. Ingram was instrumental in helping North Crowley win the 6A DI Championship as a sophomore. He holds offers from Arizona, Ole Miss, Texas State, UTEP, and Arkansas State.

Tristan Willis (@TristanWillis27 | Shadow Creek High School

• Willis stands out with his speed, burst, and elite quickness. He’s a home-run threat who runs with excellent pad level and recently received an offer from TCU. Expect his profile to continue to rise this offseason after his stellar sophomore season.

Each of these backs has already made waves as sophomores and they are positioned to become even bigger names during the offseason.
