The Platform sits down with one of the top rising tight ends in the country, Trent Richburg, to talk about his breakout offseason, recruiting surge, and what college programs will be getting when they sign him.
Coach Buckets: Start us off, who is Trent Richburg?
Trent Richburg: I’ve always played football in Ocala and dreamed of playing in the league. I’ve been around sports all my life. I currently play wide receiver at Forest High School, and I’m heading into my junior season. I prepare for the season by working out and training at camps five days a week, with recovery days in between. I’m determined, I don’t give up, and I always keep my head down because I know my dream can be taken away at any moment.
I try to stand out, even in big groups. That’s always been my focus. Playing 7v7 during the offseason gave me a lot of exposure. I started slow but found my rhythm, and I ended up being listed as one of the top 15 tight ends in the country. Competing against the best players in Florida makes me better. I love competition.
Coach Buckets: Tell us about your high school season as a sophomore. What were some of the highlights, and how did they drive you during the offseason?
Trent Richburg: One of my biggest highlights came during the spring. I had 4 receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown. That gave me a lot of motivation heading into the summer to keep grinding and improving.
Coach Buckets: What does Trent Richburg bring to a team that separates you from other tight ends or receivers?
Trent Richburg: I’m tough, dominant, hardworking, and a team leader. I take accountability and pride in being precise with my routes and my work ethic. I push myself every practice to be better than the last.
Coach Buckets: I’d have to agree 100%. You definitely show that on the field.
Coach Buckets: This spring, you played for the 352 Reapers in 7v7. That’s when we first listed you as one of the top 15 TEs in the country. How did 7v7 elevate your game?
Trent Richburg: Playing with the Reapers and against top competition across Florida and the south really pushed me. I like facing off against great players, it brings out the best in me and makes me better every game.
Coach Buckets: Your recruitment has taken off recently. How have DR7, The Platform, and 7v7 helped with exposure?
Trent Richburg: It’s been huge. Because of all the exposure, I’ve picked up a few offers, including one from Florida Atlantic and I’ve got a lot of schools showing interest. UAB has been showing a lot of love too, and I might get an offer from them soon.
Coach Buckets: When you visit campuses, it’s important to find a team that fits your skill set, a program that uses tight ends in the passing game, not just blocking. But academically, what are you looking for?
Trent Richburg: I’m definitely looking for a program that uses tight ends in a hybrid role—lining up out wide sometimes, using athletic mismatches. Academically, I want to study business.
Coach Buckets: What camps have you attended so far?
Trent Richburg: I’ve been to camps at Florida Atlantic, Mercer, UAB, Kennesaw State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Auburn, and West Florida with Coach Kaleb Nobles.
Coach Buckets: What offers do you currently hold?
Trent Richburg: I have offers from Florida Atlantic, Lock Haven, Sussex CC, and Fort Lauderdale. And I’m hoping for more this summer!
Coach Buckets: How did your Forest High School spring season go?
Trent Richburg: It went great. I had 56 receiving yards in our spring game and feel like I’ve made big strides since last season.
Coach Buckets: What’s the outlook for the 2025–2026 season at Forest?
Trent Richburg: We’re looking good! We’ve got a lot of talent, but there’s still more work to do. You can never put in enough work.
Coach Buckets: At DR Sportz and The Platform, we’re all about exposing the unexposed. Who are some other Forest High players you want to shout out?
Trent Richburg: I want to shout out Caleb Sanford (@caleb_Sanford1) and Grayson Yancey (@grayson_yancey)—both are great athletes and teammates.
Coach Buckets: I see great things ahead for you, on and off the field. Keep working and keep us updated at DR Sportz and The Platform. College coaches, take notice: Trent Richburg is the real deal.
Trent Richburg: Thank you so much, Coach. Appreciate it.
