Texas Girls Flag Football FWISD: Players Spotlight

By National Scout Marc Henry : @marchen44

High School Girls Flag Football is gaining momentum in Texas, with Forth ISD putting on it’s second full season of competitive action. In other parts of the country such as, Georgia, Florida and California, flag football for high school girls has been around for a number of years and now the opportunity to play flag football at the collegiate level has also come along for these young ladies. College Flag Football is being played by institutions around the country, which allows these young ladies the chance to continue their education and play college football. Today’s game features Eastern Hills vs Western Hills, with the Lady Highlanders coming off a State Championship appearance in the inaugural season of the Fort Worth ISD lead league. The game was dominated by both defenses, but Eastern Hills was able to move the football enough and put points on the board to win 6-0. We spotlight two players, who have signed to play at the next level and one player who has the skill set to play college flag football.

Aaliyah Franklin | Eastern Hills High School (TX) | Class of 2023

Franklin has the ability offensively to line up at running back or wide receiver and be a playmaker. Aaliyah has a quick first step, she has soft, strong hands and her ability to make catches in traffic was one the traits that stuck out in her game. Franklin is a strong runner, she has the quickness in space to make defenders miss and when she gets the football in her hands she has a burst to separate from the pursuit of the defense. Aaliyah should be on the radar of college programs looking for a player who wants the ball and who has the skill set to make plays.

Iyanu McNatt | Western Hills High School (TX) | Class of 2023 | University of Saint Mary

Mcnatt is an explosive two-way player, who has the ability to make plays on both side of the football. Offensively, she is a playmaker, she catches the ball well,  she runs the jet sweep showing good speed and she has the explosion to burst past defenders. McNatt has good quickness, she is a long strider with good speed and she has been a key cog in the Western Hills offense. Defensively, Iyanu excels at pulling flags, she takes proper pursuit angles and her ability to close on her opponent under control are traits in her game that make her one the top defenders for the Lady Cougars. McNatt, a multi-sport athlete, lettered for the Western Hills Volleyball team as an outside hitter and also ran track during her high school career. McNatt signed to play collegiately at the University of Saint Mary.

Monicah Jones | Western Hills High School (TX) | Class of 2023 | Bethel College

Jones is a reliable target as a receiver, she has excellent hands and her ability to make the contested catch in traffic are traits in her game that stick out. Monica understands how to run proper routes, her knack for getting open allows her to be a valuable target and she has the speed to get open consistently. Jones uses her extended catch radius to make grabs in heavy traffic and she tracks the football well. Jones is a multi-sport athlete who throws the shot put and discus for the Cougar Track Team and was a starter on the Western Hills Volleyball team. Monica signed on to play football at Bethel College in Kansas.
