Mercer Mega Camp: Notable QB Standouts (Part I)

Written by: Drew Johnson (@RealNews102)

College camp season kicked off around the country with Mercer University as the destination of the well-known Drew Cronic Raise The Bar Mega Camps, which featured over 100 college coaches attending to evaluate high school recruits, transfers, and JUCO athletes on June 1 and June 3. Platform National Scout Drew Johnson attended the camp this week to highlight notable QB standouts from around the country.

Evans Chuba | QB | Class of 2024 | Clearwater Academy International | @chuba_evans

6’4, 210

Good to see Evans Chuba throw around other competitors and still stand out as one of the top QBs in the building at Mercer on Thursday. Already noted is his solid college-ready frame standing at 6-foot-4 but it’s the confidence and the sense of urgency to be a leader that stands out most. College coaches in Florida are missing out on a gem behind center.

Gavin Owens | QB | Class of 2025 | Rabun Gap School | @gavinownes06

6’4, 210

Owens stood out today at Mercer because of his long frame for a QB but after watching him spin it it was obvious he shined brighter than others. Owens displayed a smooth release and good footwork fundamentals to get zip on his throws. The South Carolina product made the most of his camp visit, finishing as one of the more polished QBs.

Tyron Moore | QB | Class of 2024 | Deland | @Tj5Moore

Heard a lot about Tyron Moore and his throwing abilities and after witnessing multiple deep ball money throws it’s evident he can be a problem under center.

Jakhari Williams | QB | Class of  2024 | First Presbyterian Day | @JakhariWilliam4

6’3, 190

Williams was another decent-framed QB attending the Mercer Camp while showing off his good QB mechanics and arm strength during the 1v1 sessions.

Joaquin Kavouklis | QB | Class of 2026 | Clearwater Academy International | @joaquinkav10

6’1, 173

Kavouklis attends a well-developed high school in Clearwater Academy International and will look to lead the program in the near future. Still a raw product but his understanding of QB mechanics combined with decent arm strength and accuracy makes him an interesting prospect to follow. Still has plenty of time to develop and add weight to his frame to be a true QB threat for CAI.
